Center for VLSI and Embedded System Technologies

ABOUT

Center for VLSI and Embedded Systems Technologies (CVEST) was established in 2002 with an aim to build low cost indigenous technologies, through research and development, in the areas of VLSI design and Embedded Systems. CVEST has spread its activities to research areas like Optics and Photonics, Flexible electronics, Embedded systems and IoT, Analog and Mixed Signal Design, Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit (RFIC) Design, Low-Power VLSI Design and Algorithms, etc.

The CVEST has research collaborations with premier universities: IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Hyderabad, Southern Illinois University, KAUST, Sapienza University of Rome. The center also works in close collaboration with industry and organizations such as Xilinx, Synopsys, Qualcomm, Intel Corporation, DRDO, DBT, SERB, MHRD, Ministry of Defence and many more. We currently have about 40 research students, 5 faculty members and 4 supporting staff members.

The center has three labs under its supervision -
  • VLSI CAD Lab - comprising of state-of-the-art VLSI CAD tools like CADENCE, Synopsys University Bundle (VCS, Prime-time, H-Spice etc), COMSOL, MATLAB etc.
  • Embedded Systems and IoT Lab - equipped with ARM Processor kits, ATMEGA32 boards, Altera FPGA Boards, Zed boards, TI Mixed Signal System Development kit.
  • Optics and RF Lab - equipped with optical sensors, ring lasers, modulators and optical signal processing devices.

The facilities are available for all institute staff and students who would like to participate in VLSI R&D activities. Full tuition fee waiver is provided to the research students pursuing Ph.D. and M.S.

VISION

Along with research, we nurture young engineers with all the skills necessary for various aspects of VLSI and embedded systems development through strong coursework and research oriented projects. Eventually, the lab aims to be a breeding ground for tomorrow's entrepreneurial leaders. IIIT-Hyderabad supports financially the bright minds to open start-up and also provides working space in Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship CIE inside the IIIT-H campus.

OBJECTIVE
  • To fabricate low-cost, low-power and high yield Analog and Digital VLSI designs.
  • To develop low cost, efficient sensor and hardware for biomedical and IoT applications.
  • To promote quality research and publish in best journals and conferences.
